Free-range, organic chicken breasts, been in fridge since about 1/2 hour after I bought them, use by date Fri 13th. Would you eat them? Am kicking myself because they were expensive!!

no niff = ok

niffy = bin i'm afraid

CandiceMariePratt · 15/05/2011 09:52

I wouldn't. give them to the cat

MortaIWombat · 15/05/2011 10:00

Yes, unless they were slimy and smelt bad when they'd been open for a couple of minutes*. But I'd cook them thoroughly.

  • to avoid the unpleasant smell chicken has straight after opening.
Imnotaslimjim · 15/05/2011 10:04

Agree with awesome. Open them and leave them for a minute. You'll be able to smell it from across the room if its off. I did this recently with pork and the smell is unreal!

Thanks - I always cook them thoroughly anyway as I'm paranoid about undercooking chicken! Will sniff to check...
