i've got one of those where you freeze the tub then set it off and the icecream is pretty much done, does any one have any good recipes, no raw egg as id like to give a bit to ds (8 months) i quite like the idea of some frozen yoghurt but have no idea where to start

I made this frozen yoghurt a few summers ago in exactly the same sort of ice cream maker you describe which we borrowed from friends (our friends were quite clever, they bought an extra tub for theirs so there was always one in the freezer getting cold so you could make double batches). It literally is just that - frozen greek yogurt with some sugar and vanilla. It was amazing with crumble or with fruit on top.

This looks amazing too, strawberry frozen yogurt - just strawberries, sugar, greek yogurt and lemon juice (vodka or kirsch optional!)

Tyelperion what type of sugar did you use? i think that would be lovely with some stewed rhubarb!

My SIL makes a really simple one for the kids (on the rare occasion that any sugar is deemed acceptable in their house) by mixing milk with condensed milk and putting it the icecream maker (same type as you have). Comes out ok - not as creamy as the traditional custard based type. You couldput other flavourings in the mix too if you like I would think, like a fruit puree or nutella.

I think I just used regular white granulated sugar. Since you stir it in until the sugar is dissolved it makes no odds how fine it is.

If I ever get a chance to make it again I might try agave nectar or something all hippy-ish like that, or soft brown sugar and see how it affects the taste.

One of our faves is to melt 3 chopped Mars Bars into about half a pint of milk, allow to cool and add a pint of double cream. :)

I made very easy strawberry ice-cream last night - put 350g strawberries in a blender, then mix with 200ml double or whipping cream, 75g caster sugar. Just switch your machine on and pour the mix in. I also do a quick vanilla one - heat 225ml semi-skimmed milk with 50g caster sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Leave to cool. Then mix with 225ml double cream and a few drops of vanilla extract. Mixture is then ready for the machine. HTH.
