Emergency Flour Question

GoingLoopyLou · 12/05/2011 17:56

Just melted all the butter and choc for brownies and realised I have no plain flour! I know self raising won't work, I have rice flour, will this work?

Thanks!

I would use self raising then give the baking tray a good bang when it comes out of the oven to knock the bubbles out of the middle. I am aware, however, not everyone has my cavalier attitude to ingredients.Grin

id do half SR half corn flour (if you have it) give it a good bash, and not add any bicarb (if in the recipie)

I think if you gone to the expense and effort of using chocolate and butter that it would be a shame to bodge them with using the wrong flour. Do you have a neighbour you can borrow some from or could you just nip to the shops?

I know it would be nice to have something that is correct, but just remember this..........whatever flour you use, it is not poisonous, it won't kill you. It might look funny, but it should still taste OK. I rather think that Scootergrrrl might be right. I always say to customers "if your cake doesn't work out properly, have it with custard!" I did that with a cake my wife threw in the bin once; it was delicious!

I used the rice flour as did it before I'd had the rest of the replies and they've worked perfectly.

Thanks though, never thought of doing SR/Corn flour. I bake all the time and this is the first time I've ever run out of flour, normally have bags of the stuff!
