Birthday cake- Jam and buttercream or just jam?

Title says it all really..

DD's first birthday cake. Number 1 shaped cake covered in Royal icing.

Just jam or buttercream too?

I did both for DS's 1st birthday - the adults appreciated it, the babies got a piece of sponge with icing scraped off!

Got to have both I'm afraid. Tis the adults who will appreciate it most!

Both and ad just a very very thin layer of lemon curd too - just a smear - it cuts through the sweetness an enamel on the teeth
