Has anyone made one? Do you just make a sponge mixture and then colour it? Do you need to use pastes to get the bright colouring?

I fancy having a go for my dd's birthday

Do you mean something like this? It looks like you make the sponge cake batter (that recipe uses a boxed mix), but then split the batter into 7 parts and colour each one separately.

That recipe calls for liquid colouring, but a cupcake decorating class I recently went on for a hen do used Sugarflair pastes and the colours were so much richer.

Can I just use my victoria sponge recipe?

I've made several, and the liquid colours work well enough. I suggest baking it at a slightly lower temp for longer though as the colour bakes out at higher temps. Have fun!
