Family food ideas for the week please

DH has the week off this week so I am planning that we all eat together every day (a rare occurance).

So, we had spinach and ricotta canelloni last night but I now need to go shopping for the week.

DSs are 5 and 2. DS 5 is quite fussy but I think that's because I give them the same old unimaginative things week in week out. Sad so would like to stretch him a little.

What would your meal plan be (given the weather)

my mealplan this week... Day1 roast chicken, raost potatoes and roast carrots, Day2 homemade meat balls (in the oven) and wedges, Day3 lasagne/raosted veg lasagne, Day4 fresh fish in the oven with pesto or philly crust on top for grown up plain for my kiddies anyways, Day5 pasta of some sort, Day6 garlicy prawns, rice and mixed veg stir fry, Day7 cous cous tagine (i think thats the proper name?)

Lovely!

I was thinking meatballs might be a good option. DCs love couscous so tagine would be a great idea.

Thank you!

Given the weather, I'd do a bbq one evening. Just something simple like burgers or chick kebabs that the DC can help you put together and some salads. Maybe some grilled fruit on the bbq with ice cream for pud. Hopefully they'd have fun helping you put it all together.

karmakameleon · 25/04/2011 13:02

that's chicken kebabs obv

fluffy Easter chick kebabs may not be such a treat for them, although very seasonal Shock

Could you please post the recipe for home made meat balls done in the oven. Thanks.

Secretwishescometrue · 25/04/2011 20:27

not a "proper" recipe as such as i do a bit of throwing in a pinch of this and that iykwim... But here goes Meatballs in the oven mince, grated onion (done on the large holes), clove of grated garlic (small side) or crushed, salt pepper and tsp cumin or whatever you like really. I used to put in egg and bread crumbs but i found i was using one to cancel out the other iykwim so dont add either now. Form into bite sized balls. You can lightly brown on the med hot pan then cook fully in the oven covered lightly with tin foil or put straight onto an oiled oven dish uncovered. Check on them and give them a move about after 15min or so mine usually take about 25min but it will depend on the size. They do come out nicer if they'v been on the pan but it depends on time... Very easy and an all round pleaser even with my pair who "dont" eat mince hmm cause its no longer mince when its in ball form? Anyways sorry for the gist of a recipe hope its somewhat helpful

That is helpful, thanks.

I found a fantastic recipe on here recently, baked spanish risotto, that has firmly become a fave in this house, so we are having it again tonight! Its rice, onion, chorizo, chicken & tomatoes basically. Really tasty, and my 3 yo DS loves it.
