I've got an ice cream maker, but I've never used it. I said I would make some to take round to my mum and dad's to have on Easter Sunday. I have recipes for things like vanilla etc, but I was wondering if anyone had a fairly easy recipe for something a bit different.

Rhubarb... Just do as per vanilla and add some rhubarb compote in. Yummy. And perfectly in season.

And actually, while I think about it. A few years ago I did a Rhubarb Crumble one. I made the crumble mix and then spread it on a greaseproof coverered baking sheet so it was about A4 size and cooked for about 7 mins at 180. Then roughly bashed and added the bits towards the end.

The easiest ice cream ever is frozen yogurt. Take 1000 ml Greek yogurt (10% fat unflavored thick yogurt) and 300 ml superfine caster sugar or confectioner's sugar. Mix together, pour in the ice cream maker, freeze.

Made this tonight and flavored it with 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder (I was inspired by a frozen yogurt they serve in Pinkberry in the US), but you could add the scrapings from a vanilla bean or some vanilla sugar or vanilla extract instead. My family loved it.

Serve with fresh berries and fruit (I served with fresh raspberries and crunchy dried mulberries. You could add some crunchy cereal instead, that's what Pinkberry does).

Consider buying "Perfect Scoop" by David Lebovitz. I don't have it yet but have tried some recipes from it (fig ice cream, anyone?) and each one has been a success.

Nigella does a Diam bar ice-cream which I had to stop making last summer because it was completely addictive and we were getting through litres of the stuff!

oh yummy, thanks for these...got some condensed milk and strawberries etc so going to try strawberry icecream and perhaps a chocolate one too.... do you think chocolate and toffee would be too rich? Dh thinks so, but it's for the children so I'm hoping they'll love it...
