To make the cake? As long as it takes!

It'll be a vegan recipe and probably a chocolate cake. I'm wondering how I should make the shape and deal with the icing.

I'm really rubbish. I bake once a year, and that's just for DD's birthday cake!

you obv have a tried n tested choc cake recipe pia?
i'd be inclined to look at madeira versions as they're easy to shape into the ladybird.
i would avoid all bought sugarpaste being vegan tbh.
