Milk at 12 months plus

Does anyone know how much milk I should be giving my 13 month old? At the moment, he has some cows milk to drink at breakfast, plus some on his cereal, and then a bottle of follow-on formula at bedtime.

I thought that it was 10 fl oz a day (that's what my HV told me), however I'm used to getting contradicting info from supposed 'health professionals'. I give my DD an 8oz milk feed at breakfast (not counting her milk onm cereal if not having toast), and another 8oz before bed. She also has cheese and at least one petit filous per day.

P.S. My DD is also 13 months (08.08.02)

DD is 12.5 months and she gets 7oz before breakfast, usually drinks 4 or 5 oz in the afternoon and then anything between 2 and 8 oz at bedtime depending how hungry. I don't really give her cows milk on it's own yet. Just feel that the formula is full of good things and I prefer her to have that.

Cows milk seems to have caused the explosive sh*ts in my DD so we're back on formula !

Queenie · 24/09/2003 17:04

I read they need min 11.5 oz a day after 12 months of age.

Dd2 is 11.5 months and I've put her on cows milk fully - her poos smell horrible and she's got a bad rash on her face so I think I might go back to formula...although thats cows milk as well so who knows whether thats causing it...anyway, she has 5oz in the morning, 4 oz at lunch and 6 oz in the evening.

eleven and a half strikes me as a bit of an odd figure.

months or oz!

Philippat · 24/09/2003 19:10

am I the only one that religiously read the birth to 5 NHS book?

It says 12oz (fullfat) milk a day or at least 2 servings of cheese, fullfat yoghurt or milk-based dish a day.

Personally, at 23months, dd is still on 16oz a day.

WSM · 24/09/2003 19:13

Ounces Enid, sorry !

Re the 0-5 NHS handout book, it also said that babies under 12m should be having a min of 20oz of breast or formula milk per day. I was told by my HV that once a baby is on 3 solid meals a day (that was 7 mo for my DD) there is really only need for 10oz a day. So perhaps you can see where my scepticism comes from ?!

Thanks - thats helpful. I read in a magazine yesterday that 2/3 pint is recommended. But I have read books which have suggested more, or less. You all seem to be on a similar track which is reassuring.
Thanks

WSM, blame Gina Ford, it was in her book. Personally, I went with the NHS book for dd but my ds isn't too fond of milk so I was reassured by GF. B4 anyone starts condeming me or GF I am not suggesting she's right just that is what I read.

my kids (3years and 1year) are allocated a pint a day by goverment rules (2 milk tokens a week, each token is worth 7 pints). so if they drink around that amount its fine with me.
