I've got flu (real flu, not a cold) and I'm going to let Ocado cook for me. But I alway s cook from scratch and I don't know what to order to make my life easier! the only readymade food we buy is fishfingers and sometimes duck pancakes. What else should I order that I don't need to make any effort over but is a decent meal?

When we're poorly we always have "hot soup and bits" - bread, cheese, pate, cold meat like salami or ham, strong mustard and horseradish (good for sinuses!) and a green salad if we can be bothered or just cut up veg like cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and peppers.

For the soup, if you're up to it, homemade basic veg or chicken broth with some pasta or rice (and loads of garlic to kill bugs!), and if not, ready-made Waitrose or Covent Garden or whatever looks good. Ready made soup can have quite a bit of salt in it but if you've got a bunged up nose you might not be able to taste it without the salt. If you're really worried about the salt you can dilute with some water or stock.

Ocado do (shock!) readymeal things eg paella, lamb shanks with veg, risotto, roast dinner meals, and a good selection of Indian and Chinese meals with veg and rice included. Also do lots of their meals in one-person portions. They also mixed veg selections with butter sauce that are "ready to steam" in the microwave, bagged salads, pasta salads, sushi, 3-bean kind of salads, potato gratin, etc. I LIVE on Ocado ready-prepared food when DH is away!

Thanks. See, it wd never have occurred to me to buy microwave-in-the-bag veg! (Not being snobby - truly ignorant!). And soup, too.

Me too! I found them whilst looking for super-fast things to cook/eat for when DH was away. I am lazy so the 'ready to steam vegetable medley' was a great find. As were the low-carb ready meals (curry, risotto, etc). Nice thai rices and veg dishes too. Dont forget to order some magazines if you're poorly! Get well soon!
