Kids aged 9-13. Ideas for snacks

Benno · 10/04/2011 20:17

My 9 and 13 year old are always hungry.
I don't want them snacking on rubbish, but there's only so much fruit they can eat.
Ideas??

Muffins? Get them to make them too, keep them entertained for a while! Fruit or veg mixed in; carrot & apple, beetroot& chocolate, carrot& courgette are all good.

cheese scones

Bagel (Toasted or not) with low fat cream cheese and cucumber or tomato. You can give them half each if it's not long 'til meal time. Tesco sometimes have the new york ones on BOGOF, and they freeze ok.

Muffins are a good idea, split, add sliced tomato top with some grated cheese and grill until cheese melts. I find the Kingsmill ones freeze and defrost better than Tesco's own brand.

Mini pittas with some salad, and maybe a bit of cooked chicken/ham/boiled egg.

Breakfast cereals.

Instant rice noodles (just pour boiling water over them). Zap some frozen edamame beans in the microwave whilst the noodles are soaking. Drain. Mix. Soy sauce/chilli flakes/coriander/whatever.

Pitta pizza - spread red pesto over pitta bread/top with v thinly sliced vege and cheese/bake.

Toasties.

Hoummus and veggie dippers.
