Can anyone help me recreate a forgotten recipe?

It's not actually mine, unfortunately, it's one my MiL used to make for DH when he was little. It was, evidently, the most gorgeous pudding ever ever ever and she lost the recipe, for which DH has never forgiven her. So what we know of this incredible dish is this:

it was like eton mess in that it was cream with Bits in

the bits were strawberries and crunchy chocolatey things, perhaps broken up chocolate biscuits

it also had some kind of chocolate sauce

This is from when DH was about 6 (yes, he remembers it vividly!), he is now 33 so early 80s.

Does it ring any bells? Please?

Is your MIL not alive/enough with it to ask? Surely she can remember what the chocolate crunchy things were? I'd have guessed broken Crunchie bar, tbh.

Don't know the pud, sorry - but it sounds like it wouldn't be too hard to create afresh. Is it supposed to have meringuey bits in?

MiL is pretty grim, she'll never remember. DH says no meringue and not Crunchie Bar. This is going to be a long, slow process of elimination, isn't it!

I'd say it's a bit of a lost cause, but maybe someone will recognise it! You're talking about 27 odd years ago though - and who knows where your MIL took the recipe from, even assuming that it was in a book or magazine or something!

good luck though :)

I wager the chocolatey bits were Bourbon Biscuits. Hope that pushes some buttons!
