Moron-proof cake recipe?

LuckyC · 05/04/2011 08:29

DD's 1st birthday this weekend. I am beyond crap as a cook and barely capable of following a recipe. Does anyone know something totally fool-proof in the recipe line?

Thanks!

Get 3 eggs. Weigh them. Whatever they weigh, weigh out the same amount of butter, caster sugar and self raising flour.

Beat the sugar and butter together until they become lighter in colour, add an egg, then a large spoonful of the flour, another egg, more flour, the last egg and the last of the flour and fold until mixed (you're trying to get as much air in as possible). At this point, you can add a few drops of Vanilla Essence for a plain sponge, a spoonfull of cocoa for a chocolate cake or even split the mixture into a few bowls and add food colouring. Splodge the mixture into your cake tin in alternating spoonfulls and you'll get a marble cake.

Put in a cake tin and bake in a 180 degree oven until golden (should take 15-20 minutes) To check it's cooked, lightly press the top of the cake. If you leave a fingerprint, put the cake back in for another few minutes. If the cake springs back, it's cooked.

Easy Grin

Easiest cake in the world.

The orange marmalade version is super yummy.
