Hi All,
Wondered if you could help. I'm after a Veg box scheme in West Yorkshire and want to get something that comes from the local area. I have found this company www.avidorganics.co.uk and wondered if anyone knew anything about them? Thanks very much for your help!

hi skydog i don't know the company you mention soon.o get an organic veg box from Swillington organic farm. We love it. We get a half share, for two people which costs about a pound a day. Tbh in winter and early spring we have to suppliment it with other stuff, esp fruit (but we eat a lot of veg) though throug summer and autumn you get mountains.
You have to collect it from the farm on a fri or sat which could be a disadvantage (but we like having a nosey, plus when things like soft fruits are in glut it's often a matter of "take as much as you can pick")

Almost everything is grown by them (the rest locally) and they are aiming to be self sufficient very soon.

Everyone is welcome to be involved in growing (or not) and there are regular events eg bbqs.

Hi Moonface, Thanks for your comments. The farm sounds lovely. I've ordered my box with Avid Organics as she also delivers around my area and S Yorkshire. The lady is lovely and also does loads of homebaked bread, cakes as well as Gluten and sugar free stuff so I think it will be great!

Thanks for the advice though and for replying to my post

skydog have you got your box yet? how much was it and were you impressed

Hi nannyl
It arrived this morning! It's lovely - full of really good quality vegetables - cabbage, carrots, potatoes, onions, a swede, Leeks, big bag of greens, cauliflower (some other bits that I can't remember!). I paid for a £15 box that we intend to get fortnightly and i'm pretty sure that it will last till then. Looking on the website though you can get £10 ones and if you didnt want just local UK veg then there is a Euro box which is more peppers, mushrooms and things.

Karen the owner gave me a sample of some bread she makes and it was lovely. I would highly recommend. She seems really nice and i'm pretty sure she could work around your requirements. Hope this helps you. The website is www.avidorganics.co.uk

Good luck - let me know how it goes

I tried Avid Organics 6 months ago and I've been with them ever since! I live in Sheffield. The lady who owns it also runs it. She is really friendly and her food tastes amazing! I'm getting married next year and am considering having the catering done by her. Its a small box scheme-but honestly, the best I have ever been with. The stuff is such good quality and when the odd bit of rubbish gets through, she makes up for it-no quibble at all. You should try her. You wont regret it.

Oh thanks kdoorsey that's really reassuring! I didnt know they did weddings - that's interesting as my friend was after an organic caterer. Do you know what sort of stuff they do?

They do all home made organic stuff. I'm looking at tarts with herby pastry and roast veg, loads of different salads-the butterbean, peanut & sweet onion sounds fab, and hand made bread-walnut, rosemary, olive. Yum. The owner said she would do hot stuff if I want too. Apparently they did a wedding this year that served veg stew and dumplings with rice pud for dessert! I think anything goes. Best thing is they sound really flexible and say they work to individual budgets.

Wow! that sounds fab. I'll certainly pass that on to my pal. Thanks for that
