Someone put me out of my misery and tell me which food processor to buy

My old and cheap food processor died a painful death on Christmas Eve (just as I was about to start preparing food for Christmas day - naturally). I've spend the past 3 months dithering and procrastinating what I should buy to replace it. All the "helpful" review sites contradict the previous site i've looked at. Some love the Magemix and some say its the worst purchase they've ever made. Same with the Kenwood.

I'm prepared to pay for a decent one. I've been looking at Kenwood's (FP920, 720, 730) and Magemix's (4200 and 5200).
Please PLEASE could someone give me some advice and tell me (and I mean that, TELL ME what to buy). I'd be v v grateful and it would mean that I'l stop boring the pants of everyone else in my house .

I have a magimix and love it - great for chopping and blending and making pastry.

I have a kitchenaid for cake making though as I don;t think food processors can do the job as well.

Love my magimix 5200 - used every day and never had any issues (purchased 6 years ago). Mine has a juicer attachment so I can make veg juices, as well as the usual chopping, mixing. Highly recommend it.

I have a magimix (3100) - it has been great.

For the 3 Magimix owners - I keep reading 2 drawbacks - that they aren't v good at making dough and sometimes if you need to use the smaller bowl, the other 2 bowls get dirty at the same time. Neither of these are dealbreakers for me, but interested in your experiences... Many thanks!!!

I have just started looking too... bloody Jamie and his 30 minute meals!

However, I have a slightly different issue... I'm not sure I can justify an expensive one (for the once a year it will probably actually get used) but if I buy a cheaper one will I think it's crap and not use it??

Braun. Fab but you can't get them any longer in the UK. I've had mine over 20 years. You can still get them from Germany through Amazon and they get rave reviews.

I have a magimix 4200xl. It is fab but the thing about the small bowl making the bigger bowl messy is true.

Never had any problem with dough though. Bought it after my previous two (cheap) processors died at christmas, both doing royal icing! This one has survived the royal icing and does everything you would expect.

haha Chipping - me too - managed one meal tonight using my liquidiser instead of a food processor (was bloody delicious) - but I need a food processor........

Mind Magimix looks way out of my price bracket

I had a Kenwood one for years and it was really good. It only died when I accidentally cut through the wire and set it on fire.

I'm like you Chipping - want a new one but don't want to spend mega-bucks. I'd probably use it about once a month.

hmm - see I'll probably use mine quite regularly so maybe I ought to spend more? But I can't afford to spend much ARGHHHHHH

BG - I guess you are just lucky not to have hurt yourself!! (Well, as you didn't mention it, I assume you didn't??)

Baroque - how often would you use it?

There just seems to be so many different ones and such a huge price difference?!

I'd probably use it at least once a week - if not more.

I'd go for a Kenwood every time.

Depends how much money you've got, though.

The Kenwood Chef, for example, comes as a mixer (with a whisk, a dough hook and a beater) with a blending jug, and you can buy loads of different attachments as you go along.
I've got my mum's Chef and it's about 40 years old now.
Last christmas DH bought me a food processing attachment - it was the slicer and chopper.
I've also got a mincer.

I spent ages lusting after a magimix but didn't fancy the outlay. One day I impulse bought a kenwood for £50 half price in currys. I've since used it at least once a week for 3+ years and it's still going strong. It's great for chopping veg for stews & curries. I used to use it to purée soup (but now have a hand blender for that. It's also great for grating juicing and whisking. I've made pastry in it but not bread ( never bought the dough hook attachment). I'm so glad I didn't shell out for a magimix. I'm a keen cook and it's my fave kitchen aid.

... and a Kenwood Chef and a Food Processor are two different things aren't they??

Which Kenwood is it? Do you know?

I've been thinking about getting this KitchenAid mixer although I'm pretty sure last time I looked it was £350. Don't cook anything that needs mixed but hoping I will start to if I get this!

Chipping - I realised when i started looking into Food processors that I actually want need both too!!
