Someone put me out of my misery and tell me which food processor to buy

My old and cheap food processor died a painful death on Christmas Eve (just as I was about to start preparing food for Christmas day - naturally). I've spend the past 3 months dithering and procrastinating what I should buy to replace it. All the "helpful" review sites contradict the previous site i've looked at. Some love the Magemix and some say its the worst purchase they've ever made. Same with the Kenwood.
I'm prepared to pay for a decent one. I've been looking at Kenwood's (FP920, 720, 730) and Magemix's (4200 and 5200).
Please PLEASE could someone give me some advice and tell me (and I mean that, TELL ME what to buy). I'd be v v grateful and it would mean that I'l stop boring the pants of everyone else in my house Sad.

OOh, my kinda thread. As I can tell you all how much I love my Kenwood Chef. I spent aaages wondering whether to buy a Kitchen Aid or a Kenwood - then my Magimix broke so I also needed a food processor. So that decided it really - Kenwood Chef = 3 in one, mixer, food processor and (glass) blender. I love it a ridiculous amount, and use it a lot. And shine it from time to time, which is most unlike me. I am now the proud owner of the ice cream maker attachment also.

We have a Bamix blender, it's the one endorsed by Gordon Ramsey. Quite expensive at first (approx £130) but so worth it when i've previously had to throw away so many cheaper alternatives before. Can order through amazon or direct through manufacturer. very powerful and can even turn skimmmedmilk into a great milkshake. Perfect for all of the purees i've just started preparing for my little one.

aaahhh, Lulie - i saw the ice cream attachment too!
I'm not allowed it, though, because I have a stand alone grind till your arm falls off manual ice cream maker.

haha I had a thread like this at the beginning of the year, in the end I bought a KitchenAid Processor and it is fine.

However, that said I dont use it every day, but a few times a week and I havent made dough yet. I have sliced, chopped, blended and grated. Also made cake mixture. Easy to clean, easy to swap blades etc.

Is the price justified? Only time will tell.

My friend has a Kenwood and she loves it. Uses it all the time and there really is not a huge difference.

and besides - I had my "spring shop" on Monday night when I ordered it and have some other stuff arriving today as well so I don't want opened boxes everywhere (ok it won't be everywhere - but I need to make sure I've got space to put packaging away before opening stuff) - I just hope the other stuff arrives before I go out for nursery run........

Baroque - my Mum has/had one of the orange ones as well :)

So - have you made anything yet?

Get your priorities sorted - you must have a friend who could do the nursery run?? Grin

What did you buy in your 'spring shop'??

Nickel - can't you donate your old ice cream maker to a charity shop and tell DH it's broken?? If it was me I'd simply ignore him and buy the one I want - I don't do 'being told' Grin I guess I need to look at all of the attachments and see if it will do what I want it to... (take ingredients out of the pantry, measure, mix, bung in the oven... whistle when it's cooked & preferable put it on the table...??? I think I need A chef not A kenwood chef!!).

no I haven't made anything yet - and I do have my priorities right - child free time - do nothing except MN and drink coffee - everything else can do be done with children around Wink

I bought an rather odd mix of BBQ (that's a secret from the DS's Wink until the weather is warm enough to do a BBQ they'll ask me "can we get a BBQ this year mum" "I hope we can have BBQ's this summer" and I'll reply with "we'll see"......while the BBQ is in the shed waiting to be used Grin), food processor, 30 day shred, bathroom scales (I haven't owned any for about 3yrs Shock), and then a few boring bits such as new waterproof mattress protectors and breadmaker bits.

Report
nickelbabyhatcher · 23/03/2011 10:45

bathroom scales are not something I want to own! Shock

DH weighs himself at work on the Mail scales, and I just don't want to know.
although it might be a good idea now.....

Chipping - don't worry, it's me who's not allowing it! Wink
I haven't got any money, and I very rarely use the one i've got.
If I told DH I wanted one, he'd say it was fine (he's a bit of a pushover)

although, might have to start having ice-cream cravings, then I'll be able to tell myself it's for the baby Grin

Baroque - The boys will be made up with the BBQ!!

I was a bit perpexed at the 'Spring Shopping' - I thought there was some spring thing I was missing out on Confused

LOL if you have too many sausages & burgers off of the BBQ you may need the bathroom scales & Shred! Let me know how that goes when you do it. I am still wondering whether to get it or not. I go to the gym several times a week but I think shred sounds good, but I don't know if I would actually do it at home and I don't actually think I'm fit enough to do it - it sounds like a killer!!

Nickel - ahhh if it's you - donate the old one to charity -think about how much fun a new family will have with it!! Order the non arm breaking one as the family Easter Treat instead of easter eggs!!

I know - I used to have one - but it got left in the garden at exH's house after I moved back there for a bit and went all rusty and horrible.........so I left it there when we moved. They asked last summer (but we were away!) and have mentioned it once this year so far when we had a sunny day and someone else was having a BBQ and we could smell it. I gave them the "we'll see" answer (which they know means..........maybe, or maybe not) Grin.

LOL @ Spring thing - no twice a year (autumn and spring) I have a little shop of the things I want to buy that aren't essentials or desperately needed. That's it now for the splurging until September/October time haha

Well - 'instead of' until it gets to the few days beforehand and they're on special and it becomes 'as well as' Grin but didn't want to rush you into that stage yet!
