What's in your box?

I am stupidly excited having just got my first organic fruit & veg delivery.

Nothing particularly scary at all - in fact a massive load of salad which I wanted tonight anyway.

And beetroot. I've read the beetroot thread and I think I know how I'm going to handle this. Roast it. Goat's cheese. Salad. Nom Nom.

I also have a couple of courgettes which aren't something I'd usually use.

What have you got and what are you inspired to do with it this week?

We get ours on Wednesdays, and always get carrots, onions & potatoes, plus 5 other items. This week, swede, king cabbage, russian kale, leeks and mushrooms. We had half the kale cooked in with rice to go with a prawn curry on Weds, last night had chicken thighs roasted with five spice, honey, soy, garlic & ginger with the rest of the kale and some roasted beetroot left from last week. Going to make a fish pie topped with mashed swede & potato with cabbage and leeks, and a winter minestrone to use up any cabbage. Mushrooms I will slot in somewhere - maybe breakfast with eggs and tomatoes? Goats cheese and beetroot - nom nom indeed Smile!

Mitchy - say it isn't so! I hope you've not resorted to picking up furballs and eating those! ShockWink

Knotty - the kale curry sounds wonderful!

OK, as you've guessed - I am an organic box virgin. I got the veggie 1-2 person box because my boyfriend thinks vegetables are crisps or something to be removed from his Burger King. Hmm I digress. Anyway, I don't think the veggie offerings are that generous iyswim. I could happily much through this lot by tomorrow afternoon. The fruit on the other hand will happily do the both of us. I may need to upgrade my dirtbox and make it bigger. Grin

AlpinePony, PMSL at your boyfriend! And let's face it, we could all do with upgrading our dirtboxes Grin.

MitchiestInge · 18/03/2011 13:27

we've been making merkins out of furballs, don't know what it's called but a sort of spiky curry comb massaging type thing lifts the hair away in beautiful latticed patterns in vaguely triangular shape and it just sticks to jodhs perfectly

on slightly more related note do need to find out why my fruit and veg deliveries have stopped

knottyhair · 18/03/2011 13:44

Mitchiest, love your name Grin.

mingey Did your box come yet?

What do with oranges? I'm not a massive fan of peeling and eating. What can I do with them?

I hid a courgette in his spag bol the other night! ShockGrin

This week my "scary" vegetable is salsify.

Never heard of it! Grin
