3 tier cake - advice needed

So I am making a 3 tier sponge cake for a baby dedication. Will be doing a bog-standard vanilla sponge cake with jam in the middle. It will be covered in fondant and decorated with sugarpaste flowers.

I will be taking it to the venue in 3 separate boxes and then assembling it there. It will probably be assembled for about an hour I would think before it gets cut.

Will I need to dowel it? I have done a 2 tier version of it before and it was fine without. (I only need to do 3 tiers because of needing to feed a greater number of people.)

I would just to be on the safe side, top tip for you though, last time I did a three tier cake I put each tier on a cake 'card' then rather than using expensive dowels I used straws that I stuck in then cut just above the top of the cake! Worked a treat and stayed upright for at least 12 hours!!

Thanks for that Ticklemouse. That makes it sound cheaper and easier than I had been expecting!
