5 current buns..

... inspired by the nursery rhyme my dd wants me to make her some current buns.

After a similar obsession with porridge that sadly ended in BIG disappointment (Hmm Sad Oh poor bears - that is REALLY horrible!) I feel I need to be careful here...

does anyone have a good recipe for current buns?

TIA

I'm not a great fan of currants - I'd rather have something more juicy like sultanas.

Do you remember the webchat last year where we learned to make hot cross buns? They were proper delish. You could adapt that.

Thanks Beer!

Well yes that was my worry - do they mean buns as in a little cake or bun as in a bit like hot cross or chelsea buns????

(note: When I say 'worry' I don't mean it is all I worry about ALL day... Grin)

senua - I missed that. THAT is seriously SUCH a goooood idea! Did you make them? Is it fool proof????

Maybe I will make them WITH dd at the wkd. It would be MUCH more fun esp as a neighbour has just called me for babysitting help so won't have time right now afterall.

Sorry about all the words in capslock but the idea of baking current buns has brought me all out in a sort of gossipy, busy, busy, villagey Mummy mode which involves emphasising words like that.... I'll be buying Boden and wellies next and entering village competitions!!! Grin

Dunno about foolproof but this fool tried and they turned out alright (for 'alright' read 'blardy gorgeous'!). It is yeast-based so it involves hanging around whilst it proves, which might be beyond the concentration span of a little one.

Oh I think it will be good we can do a bit. Stop and do somethingelse and come back to it later.

She is almost 5 so I think it will be fine.

Must dash - thanks a billion for your help!

They actually mean like hot cross buns, but I like fairy cakes with sultanas,

I'd do the Delia recipe without spice and peel and up the currants/sultanas

teafortwo · 17/03/2011 14:41

I strongly suspected that CMOT!

I like your recipe - yum, yum!!!

Seeing as it is just currents it seems closest to what she wants. They MUST have a cherry ontop - wish me luck!

Actually I am REALLY looking forward to making them!
