Mumsnet Wine Club launch wine tasting 9-10pm Thursday 24th March 2011

By now, some of you should have had delivery of either the tasting cases you won in our prize draw, or the ones you ordered.

Inside your case you'll find six bottles which will enable you to take part in our first online wine tasting and discussion.

The bar opens at 9pm on Thursday 24th March 2011 with last orders at 10pm. All you have to do is find a glass, log on to Mumsnet and let us know what you think of what you're drinking.

We'll have one of the winemakers whose wine is included in the case, Heidi Seifried, logging in from her vineyard in Nelson, which is on the western side of New Zealand as well as Rowan Gormley, Naked Wines' founder from not-so-far-away Norfolk, who'll be on hand to answer any general wine questions you might have.

WIN CHAMPAGNE!
And if all that's not enough of an incentive, we've got three bottles of champagne on ice to offer out to Mumsnetters who join in the chat.

So whether you want to just try one bottle with us or open all six from the tasting case and invite some friends round to share the fun, we look forward to seeing you online on the night.

There's still time to order your case if you haven't done so already. It's £39.99 for the six bottles (a discount of over £25) and if you order before 21st March you'll have your wines in time for the tasting.

Cheers! Wine

Pop in tomorrow about 5pm...we always taste all the samples that came in this week. You'd be very welcome

Thanks! Will try and meet dh after work.

mmsparkle · 24/03/2011 22:13

Loving the idea of an online lock-in!
Keep it up, we may get to the last bottle yet...
Is it possible to buy case of one particular wine? haven't checked website yet. How long does discount apply for?

DH asks, what are the bumps near the base of the bottle for?

terribletracey · 24/03/2011 22:14

as soon as this discussion is over im gonna order some wine and hope it arrives when OH is out as he took delivery of my winnings!"!

Guadalupe · 24/03/2011 22:15

Dh prefers this Kimbao, I am finding it a bit heavy after the fruity whites. Maybe I need some meat.

CatherineHMumsnet · 24/03/2011 22:15

Like to say a huge thank-you to Heidi for coming in from the vineyard to talk to us (keep us posted on the baby news) and to Rowan for talking us through tonight's wines. Hope everyone's had a lovely - if slightly squiffy time - let's do this again? Chin-chin. Wine

Thanks MN for organising this evening - I feel I've learned loads, not least to be more adventourous in by wine drinking. Am looking forward to trying my whites now. Good luck Heidi, and thanks Rowan too.

CatherineHMumsnet · 24/03/2011 22:16

For everyone asking, there are apparently still a few cases of the wines tasted tonight here www.nakedwines.com/mumsnetpack but I'm not sure how much longer they'll be in stock.

Well it's been a lovely end to the stressful day. Will most definitely be buying some over the weekend. A real eye opener.

Thank you Rowan and Heidi Smile

Good luck with the baby Heidi, can't wait to find out which name you decide on Grin

whiskersonkittens · 24/03/2011 22:16

Thank you Heidi, Rowan and Mumsnet for organising this.

The 2 wines I tasted are great and I am looking forward to trying the rest over the next week (dh is away Grin) then sign up to be an angel :)

mmsparkle · 24/03/2011 22:16

Thank you to all, perhaps we will open the next wine tonight then!
Why will it taste better tomorrow? Aeration? I thought oxidation was a bad thing... is this the allowing wine to breathe thing?

Note deterioration in grammar almost certainly the wine's fault!

busymum83 · 24/03/2011 22:16

Thank you Rowan and Heidi, it's a pleasure to hear what experts have to say and think about these wines, and how even if I don't quite know how to say it properly, my views on a couple of them are not as left-field as I think!

You can buy individual wines, but it seems the mumsnetters have cleaned us out of one or two!

Tell DH that they are to stop men from dropping the bottle after a few too many. It may even be true....

mmsparkle · 24/03/2011 22:17

PS Good luck Heidi! Enjoy parenthood!

Thanks, Rowan. Have emailed.

And I just remembered that DH will be in Scotland at Easter so can bring the wine back with him. Hurrah.

Reggiee · 24/03/2011 22:18

Thanks all for a lovely hour. Hic....Wine

Steery · 24/03/2011 22:18

It's been great. I have tried some different wines that I wouldn't have thought of trying before.Wine

HeidiSeifried · 24/03/2011 22:18

I best sign off and get back to our grapes and ferments.... such a busy but exciting time of year for any winemaker! The aromas in the winery are just magic with all our ferments bubbling away!

Great to see so many people chipping into the tasting and offering feedback -great to hear your comments. Look forward to doing another tasting with you sometime down the track.

Enjoy the rest of the wines!

All the best
Heidi

mmsparkle · 24/03/2011 22:18

Ha ha, he didn't believe that and said it's my fault for not describing bumps properly.... enough wine there then!

Oxidation is bad in white wines (as a rule) because the flavours are more delicate

It can be a good thing in red wines, as they can benefit from ageing

But the reason to open before you taste is that usually the wines have come out of the fridge, are too cold and just need to warm up and breathe a little.

The Syrah Cab is such a huge beast that it could really do with another year or two in bottle

NorkyButNice · 24/03/2011 22:20

Thanks - it's been brilliant!

Really enjoyed it, let us know when the next one is!

SirBoobAlot · 24/03/2011 22:20

I never knew about letting whites breathe before this thread, shall be taking note.

And thank you for the wine recommendation - DP will be getting several links as suggestions for mothers day Grin

RowanNakedWines · 24/03/2011 22:21

Thank you all for a great tasting, and thank you Heidi for stepping away from the harvest.

Good fun!

Rowan

busymum83 · 24/03/2011 22:22

Just ordered another taster pack and am now an angel! This pack has been an eye opener. Amusingly enough, I enjoy the reds and the DH enjoys the whites; everyone's a winner!

kittycat234 · 24/03/2011 22:23

Been lots of fun. Think I am a convert :)
