Lidl:

green grapes, 500g in plastic container, £1.29 (loose ones were £2.99 a kg & not as nice)
organic free range eggs, £1.79 each, 2 for £2.50
300g cherry vine tomatoes, £1.29
50% juice cordials, £1.25 each, £2 for 2 (my store only had orange & blackcurrant though)

Aldi:

2.5kg Maris Piper £1.69
large free-range eggs (not organic) 99p
(medium about 85p I think)
500g frozen tuna steaks £3.69
500g frozen salmon steaks £4.99
garlic baguettes 39p

NB haven't tried the fish or the garlic bread yet so can't vouch for them, but tuna at c £7 a kilo can't be bad, & it's line caught apparently (& I believe frozen fish is fresher than fresh fish, iyswim, because they freeze it on the boat)

The tuna is good value, the portions are tiny but ideal for a salad I find. I use a whole bag though. The salmon is a complete waste as the portions shrink and only enough for one meal. Ideal for a pasta dish but not up for any encroute etc. Lacks taste and texture.

Avoid the apples at all costs - tough as old boots!

Never see the point of buying garlic bread, never found a decent bought one. Make myself.

On the meat side - always buy british!

thanks, bacon, I'll bear that in mind (about the tuna & salmon) - I also bought some boxed salmon at Lidl, I was planning to do a taste/value comparison - if it's all rubbish I'll know not to bother again Smile

They also have frozen plaice & sea bass at Aldi, have you tried either of those? But no sea bass there yesterday, or I'd have got some of that to try too.

We usually get garlic bread from Sainsburys & that's very good but at least £1 each. (Don't like Tesco ones at all, much too dry)

I didn't buy any meat, but I think a lot of it is British.

No I havent tried the plaice as its not a fish I do much with.

You must consider the weight not the portions as 1 porion of salmon would not feed my husband. The salmon isnt anywhere near a quality fresh cut from a proper fishmongers but may be ok for say fish pies.

What annoys me with fish (from anywhere really) you pay for the frozen ice too so your piece of fish/prawns are not the same when defrosted. My experience of the salmon annoyed me and I did post this on here last year - it was so funny!!!

The Gammon is £1.49 for two big steaks, not as thick as asda extra special but fills you up. British meat I think.
