Why 340g?

Why is it that packets and jars of things seem to be coming in odd amounts? Our jam is 340g, and Rice Crispies now come as 340g or 510g - what's with the multiples of 170g? I don't get it Hmm

Confused person here... if it was equivalents of imperial amounts, I'd see the point, or nice round numbers like 500g. But why 170/340/510????

cost-effectiveness, packaging size? I don't know really

It just seems such an odd number to pick! I'm sure Rice Crispies used to be 500g, but the new pack is 510....

More content, less air perhaps?

So they can put 2% Extra Free banner on what was previously a 500g pack, now 510g?

510g is divisible by 30g = 17 servings. Not sure that works for Jam though!

340g is 12 oz.
