Wagamama and chopsticks!

lilibet · 22/10/2005 23:37

dh and I were out in Manchester tonight and fancied trying Wagamama, we queued up and then realised that you only get chopsticks so we had to leave as neither of us can use them and we needed food desperately!!

so our challenge for the next month is to buy some chopsticks and learn then we can go back

How do you use them? An easy guide for both a right and left hader please?

oh, Lilibet, they are so easy - can't really explain how to in writing though. just use them like pincers, that make sense?

mmmm, Wagamamas!

Rookie Stixs , my kids started with these and DS 8yrs now use normal ones .

NotQuiteCockney · 23/10/2005 07:23

I'm sure Wagamamas give cutlery if you ask.

Chopsticks are hard work to learn, you need to practice for a few meals before you can use them ok.

suzywong · 23/10/2005 07:30

of course Wagamamas gives chopsticks

the key with chopsticks, is that you should be holding your rice bowl directly underneath your mouth, no more than six inches from your face. You use your chopsticks like pincers to pick up an item, from the main serving dishes in the middle of the table, take the item back to your upheld bowl and then put item in mouth and scoop up rice, even bringing the bowl nearer to your mouth.

A common mistake is to forget that it's chopsticks and rice bowl in combination.

whatamess · 23/10/2005 07:34

They will give cutlery if you ask - another idea is to ask for the Ramen (noodles in soup) and everyone gets a bog spoon with that so you wouldn't feel the odd one out!

Enid · 23/10/2005 08:53

or you could ask for the kids chopsticks

they are fixed together at the end and you use them like tweezers

Enid · 23/10/2005 08:54

they will give you a fork if you ask (cue patronising looks though) or you can always discreetly swipe one from the counter on your way to the loo

misdee · 23/10/2005 08:57

We saw a man asking and he was refused them!

It was the thought of eating one grain of rice at a time when we were both starvign after the theatre.

We shall buy some and practice!

He was refused them! - I'd actually tell their head office that! We have never had any problems getting cutlery (ds isn't great with a spoon so chop sticks are a no-no) I'm sure the company wouldn't condone such an attitude!

My dd gas a good stab techique at Wagamamas, she likes the big soups so she can get a big spoon which she used to eat everthing that can't be stabbed!

sis · 23/10/2005 14:59

John Lewis sell rookie chopsticks with the chopsticks attached at one end - although I am amazed that they refused to give alternative cutlery as after a bit, I tend to get bored of eating slowly with chopsticks and move onto fork and never had a problem getting a fork in wagamamas.
