Ideas for breakfast on a train

Hi all,

I'm going to London for the weekend with my mum and aunt on Friday and as we are getting an early train I'd like to take breakfast to have on the train. There isn't always a buffet car on the train so I need to take something, can you recommend something that:
a) isn't messy to eat, preferably no cutlery needed
b) could possibly be prepared on Thursday evening so I don't have to do too much on Friday morning (will be leaving home by 7.30am)
c) is a bit more special than a normal breakfast but won't cost lots

I don't ask a lot do I Wink

Pain au chocolat, danish pastries, croissants - not messy as such but will probably leave crumbs all over the table

Smoked salmon bagel

I always buy those Danish pastries - the cinnamon whirls. Yummmmmmmmmmm.

I usually have scoffed it before I actually get onto the train.

Hmmm I hadn't thought of danish's. Mmmmm good ideas.

I may do bagels to start and finish with a danish!

what else would you put in bagels, I think my auntie doesn't like smoked salmon

we generally have danish pastries and a bottle of champers.

Depending on which station you're going into, marmalade sandwiches might be appropriate ...

Philadelphia and/or jam is nice in bagels.

Take a flask of hot coffee if there may not be drinks available to buy.

Selection of fresh fruit, ready prepared (sliced oranges, grapes etc) otherwise it is a lot of bread/pastry you are having.

Lol BlueChampagne!!!

Sounds like a good plan, I am very much looking forward to my weekend. A Liz Earle facial, Wicked at the theatre, some lovely meals and a proper child free catch up with my mum and aunt. Gorgeous

x

Why not push the boat out and have breakfast in the dining car. The last time I had a BR breakfast (about 20 yrs ago) it was quite good, with Cooper's Oxford Marmalade.

Oh that sounds lovely! You should have champagne(cava would do for me) have a great time. I am only slightly jealous!
Bagels and Danishes for me :)
