So I bought a breadmaker - no idea what I'm doing - recipe pls?

Its been sitting there for over a week. Not sure of the amounts to put in, just for basic bread?

(without salt as I have a precious first born to wean)

Are there no recipes in the instruction book? My Panasonic came with a whole recipe section - there are about 40 variations!

My loaf sizes are slightly different to yours so I don't think my recipes would work for you.

I thought I was being naive, to expect recipes with it! The instructions just explain the settings - they can't even bring themselves to use the word 'flour', its just 'dry ingredients' and 'wet ingredients'.

half pint of water
splosh of olive oil
knob of butter

pound of flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp yeast

You have to put salt in (but I forget why).

The salt is to help it last longer and also for taste, I read in Baby led weaning book. I will try one with and one without.

1lb = 454g so it's for the smaller size.

My breadmaking book says "Bread without salt tastes very 'flat'. While it is possible to make a saltless bread (there is, in fact, a famous saltless Tuscan bread), salt is normally an indispensible ingredient. Salt has two roles: one is to improve flavour and the other is to act as a yeast retardant, controlling the rate of fermentation, which in turn strengthens the gluten and stops the bread from rising too much and collapsing. Salt substitutes are best avoided as few of these contain sodium."
Rather unhelpfully, it doesn't have the recipe for the aforementioned 'famous' Tuscan bread.

Try experimenting a bit to see how much you can cut down on the salt.

What machine have you got? manufacturer and model number.

Its a John Lewis one - they don't seem to go in for model numbers as far as I can see.

Anyway, I used half a tsp salt for our first loaf and the bread is really good! Very pleased

Not that you need it if your loaf worked. Though it does contain recipes for other types of loaf and of different sizes.

I didn't get this recipe book! We still have the box it came in and I've just been to check...naughty John Lewis!
