GIANT cupcakes.

Ok I want to attempt to cook a giant cupcake, want to do a trial run but really want to make one for my sister birthday on Sunday!

I can deal if I don't manage to get the equipment and everything by then but I really want to try.

Has anyone got any tips or anything on making a giant cupcake, and the equipment looks like I will be spending a lot so is it worth it?

i was given the tin as a present. i made up enough batter for 2 batches of normal cupcakes.

the bloody thing too AGES to cook through. then when the middle was done the outside was burnt to the tin, despite me greasing it up etc. it took 45 minutes of careful poking and prodding to get it out in mostly one piece. and it didn't taste anywhere near as nice as the batter recipe usually does.

i have relegated the tin to the back of the cupboard and only haven't thrown it out because it was a present and i feel guilty!

Could you cook a normal cake, maybe 2 layers and then cut to the right shape?

Or maybe in a large pudding basin (like a huge steamed pud) and then cut to shape?

I haven't heard good things about this.
DD asked me for one of those giant tins, and I told her to bog off!

I do have a great recipe for custard cupcakes though, or chocolate fudge cake that works well as muffins.

Nettosuperstar - Custard cupcakes sound yummy!! can you share the recipe?

NettoSuperstar · 05/03/2011 20:53

Well you didn't say that Poncey.
I make my own cakes to avoid that stuff.
Greasing the tin with it I could live with though.
