Pickled garlic

Anyone got any good ideas/recipes for preserving garlic? I have half a carrier bag of sprouting cloves which need using fast. I have heard of pickled garlic, but maybe there are other ways as well.

Can you chop it up and freeze it? I have been known to buy it like that?!

Yes ... it would be useful for soups and things, rather than my lazy habit of using powdered.

Look on the net for Persian pickled garlic recipes. My gran used to make it and it was lovely.
