Suggestions for a starter before Moroccan lamb?

Hi
We have friends coming for Sunday lunch and I'm planning on cooking a leg of lamb marinated in saffron, yoghurt and lemon followed by a (very un-Maroccan) chocolate fondant pudding.

Any suggestions for light, tasty starters to get us going? Somehow my stalwarts of blue cheese salad/tartlet/smoked salmon seem a bit wrong.

I think a light salad sounds ideal. You are cooking something that is going to be packed full of flavour for your main course, with a nice filling/warming comfort food pud. Blue Chees salad or smoked salmon sounds great. You could also try Soused Herring.

What about an orange and fennel salad? You could always add in some blue cheese.

How about a light, broth-like Moroccan Chickpea Soup?

salad leaves with roast pepper and halloumi?

A few mezze dishes, like spicy chickpeas, hummus, flatbread, Greek-type salad, yogurt&mint dip, olives, etc

Or..
My fave starter salad: baby spinach, avocado, crispy warm bacon bits, croutons, Parmesan shavings, and an oil/balsamic/mustard dressing.

I did a similarish meal to this and for a starter we had flat breads that I made myself, with roasted veg and a yogurty dip - but then didn't exactly clear it all away and then brought out the main course and finished off the veg/bread and dip with the lamb, it was nice.
