Can i just half a cake recipe?

i want to make this from the hairy bikers last night but i only have a 1lb loaf tin, can i just half the recipe and if so how long would i cook for? i'm a baking novice so these things baffle me but it'll taste so good with a Brew can anyone help?

I often just halve cake recipes. Just knock 5 mins off the cooking time and put it back in if it's not done. BUT I never halve recipes with one egg as that's too awkward!

You could do it in a round tin.You can check the size by pouring 2 of your 1lb loaf tin fulls of water into your round tin to see if is about the right size.

Often halve or even 1/3 a recipe too - work out proportions and change cooking times. Good hint is to write on book the amounts and size of tin you used so you know next time!

I think i will half it (even though it will be a pita to half an egg) dont think it would be as good in a round tin as you slice and butter it. Thanks SDD, i wouldnt have thought of that then id be faffing next time! Grin

Bara Brith keeps very well, and freezes. If I were you, I'd make up the full mix and just cook two lots. The mix will be fine resting for a bit.

thanks taffeta - for some reason i'd thought it wouldnt freeze well as it has no fat - saying that if i make two i'm sure someone would take it off my hands!

Bara Brith freezes really well, when I make it (from my Nain's recipe) I always make 2 x 1lb loaves and bung one in the freezer.

St David's day coming up on March 1st, you could make some welsh cakes to go with them Grin
