Inspiration for Sunday lunch

We're having friends round on Sunday. Another couple and their 3 yr old daughter. Have no idea what to make but don't want to do a roast. No food issues except the wife doesn't eat pork. Would prefer something that doesn't require too much last minute phaffing. Any ideas?

TIA

SOme kind of one pot stew that you can just leave to simmer for a few hours before they arrive? I made saussage caserole last week and my dc gobbled it up

what about a sunday 'tea' type affair. nice ham, nice bread, salad, pickles and lots of cake?

Was thinking of a stew but couldn't find any recipes that caught my fancy. Would be great if anyone had any suggestions.

Can't do the ham just in case it falls into the list of pork products she doesn't like, but definitely thinking that lots of cake would be the way to go!

Don't be put off by the name or the reputation, but I have a LOVELY recipe for faggots - you can rename to something more glamorous. It's really easy, no faff, slow cooked, satisfying in a Sunday dinner sort of way, good value meal and even my kids love it. It does have bacon in it, but it's all chopped up in the meatballs bit so she wouldn't know if you didn't tell her (unless she doesn't eat pork coz she's Jewish and not telling her would be a bit tight). Great with lots of lovely veg and either mash or roast pots works really well with it. Let me know if you want the recipe (no offence taken if you don't)!
