Valentine dinner for 2 cost £15, what would you make?

Waitrose has a valentines meal deal for £15 and M&S for £20. Not really keen on what is on offer, so DH and i are going to make a special meal ourselves, figuring £15 could do a very good meal.

We want to do a starter, main, pudding and alcohol.

We have had the m&s one tonight. Includes wine. I would just go with that unless you love cooking!

RoobyMurray · 10/02/2011 20:21

garlic prawns
steak and pepper sauce
forget pudding, get extra wine.

coldtits · 10/02/2011 20:22

A £5 bottle of wine, get something that is on offer, co-op do nice offers on wine, actually.

baked camembert

Slow roast small lamb shoulder, with minted gravy, peas and roasted potatoes.

raspberry sorbet

You need to spend at least £6 on the wine.

Rocket salad with pear, walnut and blue cheese

Pasta with creme fraiche and smoked salmon (use trimmings) and petit pois

Chocolate mousse
or Meringues with whipped cream

or a tiny box of decent Belgian chocs instead of pudding

SupersonicDave · 10/02/2011 20:47

mmm.... we do enjoy cooking

We usually do chicken breasts stuffed with cheese (mozzarella or stilton) wrapped in bacon, with saute potatoes and green veg for a nice adult only meal, but feel like doing something different.

Waitrose had a recipe for cheese and leek souffle which looked quite good.

scallops cooked in butter and garlic with crusty bread and salad
prosecco
very good chocolate

Thats what we'll be having, anyway Grin

Baked camembert
Roast chicken with salad and 'deli bits'
Chocolate mousse
Prosecco

That's what we are having at our Valentines 'indoor picnic'

thereistheball · 11/02/2011 14:23

I think we might have takeaway pizza Grin

taffetasplat · 11/02/2011 15:59

scallops out the window! Have you seen the M and S offer??

Bloody amazing.

I've got :

Dressed crab starter for 2 ( normal cost £5 )
An ENORMOUS rib eye steak ( £10 worth )
Garlic mushrooms (£2)
Millionaire Shortbread Pudding x 2 ( better than it sounds cost £3.49)
Small box of Belgian chocs ( £3.49)
Bottel Petit Chablis ( £8.99)

For £20.

It will do us for at least 2 meals, I suspect. Grin

yes - we like the M&S dine-ins though we dont drink & always wonder if we are being ripped off. I could not find any mains other than the steak for the Waitrose one and I don 't do meat either (fussy cow, I know).

figcake · 11/02/2011 16:16

Oh just noticed the waitrose dine in has two sides and chocolates or wine - is £5 less so I will go for that one

SupersonicDave · 11/02/2011 16:36

The problem with the the dine in meals is they are generally very fish and cheese heavy - not my most favourite things.

I think we may go for some duck and plum sauce, was a good recipe on BBC GoodFood.

I would get some very good steaks and then do home made chips and a salad to go with.
