How can I make a chilli less spicy?

My old chilli powder must have been quite old Blush , I've just made a chilli for tomorrow nights tea with new chilli powder and it's much hotter than I'd intended!

Can I tone it down easily and if so how?

Thanks for any ideas

yoghurt?
creme fraiche?

Serve sour cream or natural yoghurt alongside?

I'm told you can reduce heat in chilli/curry by simmering a few chunks of potato in it (then chuck them). Never tried so don't know if it works!

Was going to say the potato. Also the yoghurt/creme fraiche stirred into it.

Fab.

I'll try the potato thing and will also be serving it with sour cream so I hope our ds's are ok with it!

Thanks for your ideas.

Did it work?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/02/2011 21:29

Well we did the potato thing and mixed some sour cream in aswell. It did tone it down a bit but unfortunately both boys decided that they didn't like it (it was just one of those nights!) so they didn't eat much of theirs.

DH and I enjoyed ours though Grin
