  1. Is quite special- its for valentines day
  1. Makes just enough for two (don't want loads left over)
  1. Pref. uses in season fruit (if it includes fruit!)

Really appreciate all suggestions as my mind is blank!

spidookly · 09/02/2011 16:33

I usually do tiramasu for special occasion, Jamie Oliver does a quickie tiramasu recipe in 'Jamie's Italy' I think.

gobehindabushfgs · 09/02/2011 16:41

individual creme brulee, and strawberries, and champagne

or a little chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows and little chunks of brownie

or a big sundae to share

ImeldaSnowboots · 09/02/2011 16:41

Its a 'desert' as opposed to 'dessert' Grin

SoupDragon · 09/02/2011 16:41

Pot au chocolate (tub of mascapone, bar of chocolate, melt together) Also nice eaten warm off a taut stomach straight from the saucepan.

jaffacake79 · 09/02/2011 16:41

Tiramisu
Banoffee Pie
Pavlova
Cheesecake
Ice-cream

All can be made the day before, aren't too much fuss and taste lovely!

Batteryhuman · 09/02/2011 16:42

lemon posset with fruit

Oh I get it now.

Sleep deprivation from the 10wk old and a tantruming toddler distracted me from the hilarity.

Anyway ... Back to suggestions.

Dh would love a pavlova.

Which of all these suggestions is the easiest and quickest? My brain won't work today

UntamedShrew · 09/02/2011 16:52

Eton Mess
Lemon Posset
Small dark chocolate mousse with cream

Something tasty but small enough that I don't feel like a hippo afterwards. Sticky Toffee Pudding with custard is not a aphrodisiac, let's face it.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 09/02/2011 16:54

Zabaglione?

LadyBiscuit · 09/02/2011 16:58

Buy those individual meringue cases, fill with fruit compote and a sprinkling of fresh fruit, top with double cream and icing sugar. Takes minutes, is delicious and you can just make one each

bytheMoonlight · 09/02/2011 18:23

Zabaglione sounds nice but would mean buying enough alcohol to fill a small a drinks cabinet ... which is not necessarily a bad thing Grin

I'm now thinking of doing http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/330616/really-easy-chocolate-mousse this with rum instead (simply because I have rum)

Would that be ok?

Pavlova.

Get ingredients together before hand, assemble in seconds on day.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 09/02/2011 18:40

Sounds good, OP. Ds made chocolate mousse the other day - it was bloody lovely.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2011 18:45

My pot-au-chocolates are far easier [sulk]

NoWayNoHow · 09/02/2011 18:46

Pavlova! Can adjust recipes for two, easy to make and includes both cream and fruit (of your choice, whatever you like!)

taffetasplat · 09/02/2011 20:21

passion fruit are good atm with a pav

buy NOW though, they take 5 days to ripen

zam72 · 10/02/2011 11:42

How about pear tart with chocolate sauce www.womanandhome.com/articles/food/recipes/292184/pear-tart-with-chocolate-sauce.html

I'd cut the puff pastry into an individual rounds or squares sufficient for 1 person and then just bung on the pear. I reckon you could get away with making this in the morning, keep it in the fridge and then just bake it at the last minute. And just have the sauce ingredients in the saucepan and heat up just before serving.

I love lemon posset too - Mary Berry does a fab one - www.easytoswallow.co.uk/lemonpots.html I put them in little espresso cups and its just the right size and look sweet. I don't put in the brandy though - and you could leave out the raspberry (cos of season).

madamimadam · 10/02/2011 11:50

My absolute favourite desert is a Mont Blanc: it's delicious, really easy - and depending on how much time you want to spend on it, it can look very lovely indeed.

Take (or make) a meringue, put a loving dollop of sweetened chestnut puree (mixed with a bit of rum) in the centre, whip up some cream and put that on top, grate some chocolate on top and there you are.

If I'm really tarting it up, I pipe the meringue into a nest, put a bit of chocolate ganache over the puree and then pipe the cream on top. And finish it off with a bit of gold leaf. You can also put some raspberries on the side, to balance out the cream.

(I have been known to make it for myself, in a slip-slap-slop sort of way when I am in extremis. Blush)
