I wouldn't.

BudaBabe · 13/10/2005 10:32

Only once it's been cooked. I think it's OK then.

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 10:35

I often thaw, cook and freeze again - it's fine. Never freeze and refreeze without cooking though!

Kidstrack2 · 13/10/2005 10:35

If its bought fresh from butchers etc and then cooked its safe to freeze it. But if its been bought fresh and then you have frozen it and then defrosted it and cooked you cannot freeze it again!

Racers · 13/10/2005 10:36

No I don't think anything at all should be re-frozen.

Gobbledispook · 13/10/2005 10:39

If it's been bought fresh, then frozen, thawed and then cooked - yes, you can refreeze your cooked meal. I do this all the time with bolognese sauce - make a double amount so that the following week all I need to do is defrost and add to pasta.

Don't refreeze if you didn't cook it though.

Dropinthecauldron · 13/10/2005 10:39

Sorry-if it has been cooked then of course its fine!

Gobbledispook · 13/10/2005 10:40

Oooh, looks like there is difference of opinion! I've always done this and never had a problem, same as Hunker.

Kidstrack2 · 13/10/2005 10:41

It must of changed since I done my food hygene then!

soapbox · 13/10/2005 10:42

Yes - as long as it is cooked first!

But you can't refreeze cooked meat and you can't refreeze raw meat.

crunchie · 13/10/2005 10:43

I haven't managed to kill my kids yet!! If you cook it between it's fine. I do this with mince, chicken, fish, whatever. AND I REHEAT RICE!!

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 10:43

Here

Gobbledispook · 13/10/2005 10:44

LOL Crunchie! So does my Dad (reheat rice) - he just laughs and won't hear of it when I say he shouldn't! He just says 'well I'm not dead yet'

Gobbledispook · 13/10/2005 10:45

Oh well done Hunker - was just about to do that myself!

maddyd · 13/10/2005 10:45

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 10:46

Yep, do it, Maddy

Am amazed people don't do this, tbh!

Gem13 · 13/10/2005 11:06

Yes - once it's cooked it's fine to freeze.

Racers · 13/10/2005 12:25

Well I never! I stand corrected! Thanks for the link Hunkerpumpkin Still not sure if I can bring myself to do this after all these years - I always thought you could not re-freeze food

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 13/10/2005 12:28

im a sucker for re-freezing food.... pull it out the freezer, cook it up, whats left freeze in "jess" sized portions!

hunkerpumpkin · 13/10/2005 12:35

Go on, Racers...liberate yourself

Bozza · 13/10/2005 12:38

Our entire diet operates around doing this. Because I work 3 days I do what gdg described with the bolog. with everything.

crunchie · 13/10/2005 12:41

Ah ha reheating rice It can be done!!

codface · 13/10/2005 12:44

fuzzy · 13/10/2005 23:34

I'd err on the side of caution . We cook up and freeze a lot of meals in bulk . When we went on holiday we put a lot of meals for my then 12mth old in a freezer bag packed with ice packs. They had thawed a bit during the journey , but I stuck them back in the freezer on arrival. All the meals were then defrosted and slightly reheated with no problems during the course of the week, apart from one.
It was salmon and veg. It made my 12mnth old violently ill. After a lot of sleep he was fine . Hard to tell whether it was the refreezing or that it had been in the freezer for 3 months instead of two !!
Anyway where any kind of fish or meat is concerned , probably best to be on the safe side!
I learnt my lesson, stopped me being flippant about expiry dates ,freezing etc!!
