Have you cooked anything from this book? Which recipes? Were you pleased with the results?

Jerk chicken is fab! Sausage Cassoulet was quite nice too

pantaloons · 02/02/2011 18:34

the chicken pie is nice as is the curry.

chicaguapa · 02/02/2011 18:41

The mustard chicken and gratin dauphinoise went down well at the weekend.

muggglewump · 02/02/2011 18:42

Jerk chicken and jools pregnant pasta are regulars here.

sparklyjewlz · 02/02/2011 18:53

Did you manage them in 30 mins?

I have done the mushroom risotto with a rocket and pinenut salad, followed by lemon and raspberry cheesecake.

I didn't eve attempt to do it in 30 minutes. It just isn't the way I cook. I like cooking and prefer to take my time.

It was all very easy though.

I made the cheesecakes earlier in the day and left them to chill.

The risotto needs stirring and water adding every minute or so. I had Katz visiting and she did the stirring for me :)

Have to sat that it was very tasty.

I can't imagine I'd have managed it all in 30 minutes, and my kitchen woud have looked like a bombsite!

AuntieMaggie · 02/02/2011 18:57

I think they're probably manageable in 30 mins once you've done them a couple of times

littlerach · 02/02/2011 18:58

I did the spinach and feta pie.
Also the sweet potato mash

Both were delicious, pie took about 45 mins, but I used frozen spinach.

BendyBob · 02/02/2011 19:00

I made the steak sandwich and it was lovely. I didn't do the whole 30 minute meal bit though - just that.

It's been said in some quarters that the recipes are quite hard to do in 30 mins in rl for us mortals.

pointylug · 02/02/2011 19:08

chicken satay skewers
jools pasta
tray baked chicken
pasta tripani

All lovely and v simple

Pootles2010 · 02/02/2011 19:08

We did the jerk chicken one and was great, don't bother with jools pregnant pasta - really crap.

pointylug · 02/02/2011 19:20

We love jools pasta.

blowbroth · 02/02/2011 19:27

I did the celeriac remoulade. Took ages but was fab and enjoyed by all. I've done it a few times now.

TragicallyHip · 02/02/2011 19:33

I made it in 30 mins, but am a whizz in the kitchen Grin

Didn't make all the sides/desserts tho

thegrowler · 02/02/2011 19:40

Peri Peri Chicken & Sweet potato mash - lush

Custard tarts - amazing

Steak Sandwich - Lovely, although I personally prefer my own receipe Grin

Going to try the jerk chicken this weekend. Really enjoying the book so far...

BirdyArms · 02/02/2011 19:57

Vegetable curry is excellent, has become a firm favourite.

Also the grilled sea bass with sweet potato mash is a regular for us.

I've made the mushroom risotto which was good but pretty much like any other mushroom risotto. I liked the cheese cakes that went with it and have done them again since.

The chicken pie was very good as was the Asian salmon.

I did most of the tapas meal and that seemed a bit fiddly. Didn't like the peri peri chicken, it is very hot.

I can normally do them in not much more than 30 mins but leave at least one dish out. Overall think it's an excellent book and has been my most used since I got it. I like the way it gives you a full meal which you can pick and choose from as you wish, though I don't think that the recipes individually are particularly amazing or original.

sparklyjewlz · 02/02/2011 20:04

Thank you. that's really useful!

What did i do wrong with the pregnant pasta then?! It was so, so hot. And the balsamic was horribly acidic - should I have used a different type?

the moroccan lamb is tasty - though I just used lamb leg steaks rather than rack of lamb (cheaper)

MmeLindt · 02/02/2011 20:59

Jools Pasta - was very good

Jerk Chicken - fantastic

Custard Tarts - delish

Frangipianis - Ultra delish

If you are very organised, and have everything prepared then I think you would manage to do them in 30 mins, particularly if you have done them before.

I always at least half the amount of chili I use, as he uses tons of it and I don't like it too hot.

Blatherskite · 02/02/2011 21:03

I made Jools Pasta tonight along with the Frangipanis. Subbed the Chiccory salad with a ag of Rocket but kept the dressing. Was all very. very yum. Took me 45 mins. Left out the chilli all together as I react to it and didn't fancy spending the rest of the night with a swollen face - plus was sharing with 3 and 1 year old. DH loved it and he usually likes spicy things.

Have made the steak sandwich in the past too which went down very well.

plusonemore · 02/02/2011 21:09

the beef hash is the best!!! absolutely delishlosh Grin

COCKadoodledooo · 02/02/2011 21:14

Me and ds1 (7) did the Spanish tapas feast the other week . It was fabola! Took just over an hour, but I think that was more due to the novice sous chef than anything else.

We're doing the one that was on telly tonight (Cypriot chicken) on Saturday.

Have copied the recipes off the website so far because I'm a cheapskate Blush Are there loads more in the book?

suesfault · 02/02/2011 21:17

I watched the one with the stuffed chicken breasts today and they looked really nice, definitely going to try it.
