Lentils - how long soaking??

I want to make veggie lentil soup tonight, the packet says the lentils need soaking 'overnight' - which I clearly didn't do Grin

If I've soaked them for about 8 hours will that be long enough?

Ivenever heard of lentils needing soaking at all.

I've never soaked lentils. Just rinse them, add them to the soup and cook until done. Depending on the type of lentil, they don't take very long.

What kind of lentils? I never soak mine - red ones cook to a mush in about 20 minutes anyway, brown or puy lentils get nicely tender in about 20-30 minutes. It's normally only bigger beans that need soaking overnight.

i never soak red lentils
the big fat green ones I just boil for 10-15 mins before using

what kind of lentils are they??

It's like a lentil mix called 'broth & soup mix'.

I didn't check the packet before I bought it, I've never normally soaked them either but that's what it says, oh well I'll have soaked them for while which won't hurt, I'll just chuck them in then, ta folks :)

Broth mix needs soaked. Would overnight be 8 hours? Might be tempted to leave them another couple of hours I think. Those big split pea things can be a bit on the hard side.
