vegetarians and eggs - that yucky red bit

So, have been vegetarian for years and years, dcs all veggie too. Started to stop using leather at dd's request, so replacing shoes and bags with alternatives. Don't have a 'yuck' factor with dairy (altho do have conscience over animal farming methods). Eggs tho - I stopped eating eggs as eggs ages ago, but don't check ingredients for eggs as I suspect that would become v difficult diet wise. The dcs all eat eggs as eggs (ie scrambled/ boiled) (except dd). That red bit tho - does it make anyone else feel a bit icky? I pick it out when using them for baking.

I always have to scoop out the red bit and the stringy white bit- I feel sick at the idea of eating it! That is probably why I struggle to eat omlettes etc that I have not made (and I know, I have probably eaten any number of cakes with it in but sometimes ignorance is bliss)

The blood spot is caused by the rupture of a blood vessel during formation of the egg.

The stringy bit is called the chalazae and it anchors the yolk in the middle of the white. The more prominant it is, the fresher the egg is. Smile
