brown of any kind is nicer and more toffee-y. let it get properly melted in, then stir in the hot popcorn - and importantly LET IT COOL for a bit as can stay v hot.

I tried your advice, I have had to throw away my frying pan.

Could you amend your recipe to include the invaluable instruction: "Do not nip to the loo in the middle of melting butter and sugar."

but don't ditch the pan, put it in the sink to soak with some washing powder and leave overnight, 'twill be ok. (I seem to burn the arse off a pan on a weekly basis at the moment, sometimes just when cooking broccolli)
