Chocolate and cherry cake recipe?

6 replies

DH has requested a chocolate cherry cake for his birthday, and been very specific that he would like it to have maraschino cherries and not glace cherries in. Chocolate cake I can do, cherry-choc has never been attempted though. Does anyone know of a reliable recipe?!

I would just do your normal chocolate cake recipe and add in the cherries cut in half. If it's a sandwich type cake then I would whip up some double cream with some of the liquid the cherries come in and add in a heap of the chopped up cherries to put between layers. Lucky old husband!

Thanks, that was my backup - can't seem to find any decent recipes online. An alarming number seem to be 'buy packet brand x devil food cake mix. buy cherry pie filling. combine.' Shock

I'll give it a go - will let you know if my cherries all fall to the bottom!

Ingredients

* 200g Dark chocolate
* 180g Butter
* 100g Flour
* 4 Eggs
* 200g Sugar

Method

* 1. Preheat your oven at 225°C.

  2. Melt the butter in your microwave in a bowl.

  3. In a big bowl mix the sugar, the eggs, and the butter together. The mixture must be creamy.

  4. Break the chocolate into pieces and melt it in the microwave with 3 teaspoons of water.

  5. Now, pour the melted chocolate and the sifted flour into the mixture, stirring just until everything is well blended and you have a smooth consistency.

  6. Pour the mixture into a tin and bake it for 20 minutes.

What sugar? Normal Caster?
What flour? Self raising?

Punita 123 - I made your cake this afternoon. Total disaster - oven far to hot, still complete goo after 20 minutes, then burnt to a cinder.
