DH staying in a travelodge or premierinn on summink next week.

He needs ideas other than pot noodle.

Apparently there's a tescos nearby.

What would you eat? For 10 days!

Get him to bring a small George Forman type grill. Use it near the window. Steak/chicken breast/sandwiches/paninis/sausages/filled pittas etc etc.

Should be do-able on a tight budget.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/01/2011 20:40

he's thinking of cooking sausages in the cigarette lighter. poke it in, cook it, take a bite, put it back in. repeat. Grin

I love some of the ideas on here. Very Alan Partridge-esque Grin.

Im wondering how you could use hair straighteners.....maybe you could slowly slide them along a rasher of bacon Wink

Furball · 25/01/2011 20:50

order in a take away, loiter in reception for it.

Furball · 25/01/2011 20:50

norbert Grin

Junction3 · 25/01/2011 20:55

You could probably do a panini in some straighteners.

NorbertDentressangle · 25/01/2011 20:57

You'd still need to paint the 'authentic' black lines on the panini with something though....maybe some curling tongs?

Junction3 · 25/01/2011 20:57

You could do hot dogs in the kettle, but your team might taste funny in the morning.

He could buy a steamer and have salmon, potatoes and veg.

Junction3 · 25/01/2011 20:57

Erm .... that's tea obviously, not team Grin.

Junction3 · 25/01/2011 21:00

I think the side of the iron might do the panini tramlines Grin.

TrillianAstra · 25/01/2011 21:04

Have a pot noodle, then wedge the pot noodle pot in the top of the kettle and scramble eggs in it.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/01/2011 21:20

Liking the straighteners on the bacon, not that i'm going to offer my straighteners for it.
I've genuinely suggested a slow cooker. That wouldn't set the fire alarm off would it?

I bet the babyliss big hair would make a mean scrambled egg.

If you go to an Outdoors shop they have all sorts of sachet-meals for campers. Not cheap, though.

TrillianAstra · 25/01/2011 22:03

You can definitely boil eggs in a kettlee, keep button pressed down for 3 mins, easy.

Easier to have main meal at lunchtime and sandwiches in evening though. Poor DH alone bored and penniless in a hotel room. Does he have internet?

ItsAllaBitDeathlyQuiet · 25/01/2011 22:36

He could constantly ring down to say it's too cold so they up the heating and cook rashers on the radiator?

He could use the toothbrush mug to poach an egg in the kettle? Iron some toast?

Emm..

HAIRDRYER! He could eh..

.. dry his underwear with it, thereby saving cash for real food?

OR! Or, he could wile away the hours by making his own pasta and drying it (with hairdryer) and selling it at a massive profit as artisan handmade pasta.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/01/2011 23:17

i asked if the shower was hot enough to steam some salmon on the towel rail at the end of the shower, but apparently the shower is a bit crap.

AnyFuleKno · 25/01/2011 23:23

baked beans and a lighter? Cook one bean at a time. A slow but satisfying meal!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/01/2011 23:27

Does the travelodge have a garden for a disposable barbecue?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/01/2011 23:44

poor thing, he says he's not ready to see the funny side.
i, on the other hand, am. Grin

Oh dear oh dear oh dear Grin

PMSL at slowly sliding hair straighteners along a rasher of bacon Norbert.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 27/01/2011 18:59

He's made some friends and going out for pizza tonight. Smile

Cig lighter Sausage is genius

If he's determined to have salmon, he could wrap a fillet in tin foil, boil kettle, take lid off and balance the parcel over it. He could use the hair dryer to keep the button of the kettle down.

SkipToTheEnd · 27/01/2011 19:26

If the heating is on in his room tell him to leave a can of beans or soup on it during the day - should be warm enough by the evening.

NorbertDentressangle · 27/01/2011 19:43

Now he's made some friends is he going to invite them round to his room for dinner one evening.

I bet his menu would be the talk of the Travel Lodge and/or training course Grin

nevergoogledragonbutter · 27/01/2011 20:15

Yes, a dinner party is the next step.
