does it mean the cadbury instant powdered type or just ordinary cocoa?

strictly it doesn't mean either of these. it will say 'drinking chocolate' on tin. its more sugary than cocoa and less chocolatie and is different to instant. what are you trying to cook?

Thanks dreamingofsun. I am looking through my Jeanette Orrey 'The Dinner Lady' Cook book. Dd has a homework to follow a recipe soon. The book states drinking choc in a few of the recipes, so wanted to make sure I got it right before she chooses one.
