Morrisons is a great place to buy fish. Having previously worked at morrisons as a fishmonger assistant I can tell you the actual fishmonger has to have been trained as a fishmonger and each delivery of fish comes with a whole page of details about when, where and how it was caught and the morrisons in house training requires you to learn various recipes and methods to cook the fish. I also noticed yesterday when I went that they were really pushing more sustainable fish and appear to have paid attention to the Fish fight campaign.

The last time I bought fish from a counter, I asked it to be filleted (because DH is a fainting nancy who refuses to eat whole fish) and scaled.

The sodding creature was not descaled, cue a kitchen covered in gigantic crocodilian scales and fish slime, the tiny scrap of fish meat left over after the crude filleting was absolutely not worth the effort.

That was Waitrose, btw.

I buy frozen fish from Iceland, and tinned skinless and boneless salmon whenever and wherever there's an offer on.

I was going to post something similar, but didn't get round to it. I have been desperately trying to find somewhere that sells decent fish as we're in land-locked Oxfordshire with no fishmonger in sight. I have looked online, but didn't want to go and spend a fortune without knowing whether or not it was going to be worth it.

Interesting feedback about Morrisons. I normally avoid it like the plague, but do recall the fish counter looked quite good (far better than Sainsbury's which is shocking). At the moment I usually buy frozen or order from Ocado, although the last fish we had from there was v disappointing.

The sprats I bought from Morrisons (for 48p) were absolutely delicious and in the end dh and I couldn't finish them (cue happy dog) so will be getting them again.

The pouting was lovely too (the hfw recipe not so much).
