Does alcohol cook off?

Can anyone tell me if I cook with wine - say a casserole - does all the alcohol cook off so it's ok for kids?

Yes, I always thought so! But children may not like the taste.

It definetly does if you light it! You can buy non alcoholic cooking wine in Waitrose for £1.15 for a 1/2 bottle, it keeps for 3 months in the cupboard and comes in really handy (since I have quit the wine).

I think its not good for kids if wine is alcoholic. you can use wine which contains no
alcohol.

It does if it gets to the boiling point of alohol which is lower than the boiling point of water.

I don't know about kids not liking the taste - my dd2 demands "sausages in wine" every second day!

A friend's child went mad for mince pies with brandy in them over Christmas. I hope the alcohol had cooked off!
