Help! Bacon joint has no cooking instructions!

Once I'd wrestled the joint out of the shrink wrap I expected to find the cooking instructions on the back of the label. Don't they realise some of us have no idea about cooking?? Blush So, I have put the joint in the middle of the oven at 200C. How long do I cook it for? It weighs a kilo. And have I got the right sort of temperature? Thanks.

I don't want to knock Mumsnet, which is very useful for many things, but Hocuspontas, you must have too much time on your hands.

In the time it must have taken you to type your question I found two recipes/instructions from Google.

Perhaps a better question could have been "am I cooking it the right way?".

I would always soak a bacon joint overnight and then bring to the boil, discard the water and start again.

OK, so it takes a lot longer, so maybe my comment on having too much time on your hands was a little harsh, but the reason for soakin is to remove a lot of the salt. Then you can roast it as Scurryfunge suggests.
