A query that was raised on another thread by Chloe55.

Have any MN'ers eaten their placenta.... or know anyone that has?

Just wondering...

baulk< >vom<
(this has much the same effect on my stomach as a conversation about mooncups )

doormat · 30/09/2005 16:16

eugh the thought

lilibet · 30/09/2005 16:17

Didn't Miriam Stoppard?

nailpolish · 30/09/2005 16:19

some people bury them in the back garden or give them to the cat (not me btw)

burying is supposed to be good luck (is it?)

Toothache · 30/09/2005 16:20

Yeah.... but does anybody know of anyone who actually ate it!.... or buried it?

and again.. >spew

np can you ask the midwife for it back

Chloe55 · 30/09/2005 16:23

I watched a birth program the other day about a woman who planned to use it for something or other and she defrosted it in her microwave - it looked disgusting.

Toothache · 30/09/2005 16:23

Doormat - I don't think the midwife will still have NP's placenta..... unless she's a freaky stalker with a weird fetish (deep freeze full of placentas).

doormat · 30/09/2005 16:25

ninah well they do resemble xmas when they are wrapped up

doormat · 30/09/2005 16:26

xmas puddings sorry

ninah · 30/09/2005 16:29

well then, a flaming placenta (sounds like a cocktail)
will they notice?

Chloe55 · 30/09/2005 16:29

I bet my dog would love it - he'll happily eat pig ears, giblets, cat poo (oh and tampax in the past )

nailpolish · 30/09/2005 16:29

do you think my placentas are in a freezer somewhere just incase i have a notion for them one day?

i had a wierd experience when i had dd2 - the sac (or whatever its called) she had been swimming about in for the past 9 months came out before she did

i had been pushing, thinking it was a baby, when the midwife shouted "push!" and i felt something come out, very warm wet and slippy. "thank god thats over" i thought. but nope, the midwife continued to tell me to push, and had to ask "have i not given birth?" in a confused manner

she said "no its the babies sac, you need to get the baby out now"

i looked down and dh was green, the midwife held up the 'sac' for all to see and dh exclaimed "its like a big PLOOK!"

and it was - all yellow and bloody

its something i wish i could forget

doormat · 30/09/2005 16:31

anyone know what they actually do with them
I heard all the oil of ulay stuff
but is that an urban legend

ninah I think they would notice when they bite into a blood clot

ninah · 30/09/2005 16:33

oh gross dm
what with that and the plook ... I KNEW i should've stayed away!

Chloe55 · 30/09/2005 16:33

NP - what the hell is a plook?

ninah · 30/09/2005 16:34

chloe don't ask ...
just send your dog round at Christmas!

nailpolish · 30/09/2005 16:34

a big white/yellow-head spot (like what teenagers get on their faces)

Chloe55 · 30/09/2005 16:36

I know I brought up the subject Toothache but did you have to give it it's own thread - I do actually feel physically sick. I have never heard a zit called a plook - PMSL! And unfortunately the dog would love that too I'm sure. Jesus my dog is so digusting!

snafu · 30/09/2005 16:41

Yum yum yum

nailpolish · 30/09/2005 16:43

sweetkitty · 30/09/2005 16:48

Thats me not needing to buy cat food for a few days in January then.

Did see a programme where they made placenta pate.

fuzzy · 30/09/2005 22:18

A friend of mine did bury her placenta in the back garden but it was beside her fathers ashes and for her was a very special and spiritual experience.

However ..... I know of someone else who cooked her placenta for a dinner party ...
and didnt tell the guests ..... till after!
Nobody was amused!!

oooooooppppsss!!!!

ps Thankfully I wasnt a guest at that particular event
