Nigella says 'Do NOT throw away the cooking liquid' for ham in coke - what am I meant to do with it?

MY dad made this for the family gathering yesterday - it was absolutely delicious!! He reduced the liquid and then added some to the roasting tray to use as a basting liquer, think he threw the rest away

I made it this week and threw away the cooking fluid. I did it in a slow cooker overnight and thought it wouldn't be good for anything.
The ham was great though.

Had it at the in-laws' in-laws on Christmas Eve and they had reduced it and served it up on the side so you could put extra on top of your ham if the mood took you.
