Can I pre-make crumble?

Trying to get as much stuff pre-done tomorrow as possible. Is it ok to slightly stew the apples then chuck it in an oven dish with the crumble mixture on top and leave it in the fridge? Or will it go soggy?

I would pre-cook the apple, do the crumble and keep in a plastic bag. Add them together at last minute.

it will go soggy, you can prepare the crumble mixture and leave it in a bowl in the fridge, just chuck it on before cooking.

Yes, crumble topping goes soggy really quickly, def store it separately.

What you can do is cook it separately. Make your crumble mix, spread it on a tray about 1cm thick. Bake it in the oven but keep turning it and breaking it up. When it's golden brown take it out and leave it to cool, then either whizz it roughly in a food processor or smash it up with a rolling pin. Can be stored in an airtight container till you are ready to use it.
Then just heat up your cooked apples or whatever you are using in the oven, put your crumble mix on the top and leave in the oven to carry on warming through.
Perfect crispy crunchy crumble every time.
I sometimes use Demerara sugar to make it extra crunchy.

Can also freeze uncooked crumble mixture.

I'd cook the whole thing (filling and crumble) but don't cook it completely. Then give it half an hour or so to warm through and finish cooking when you are ready.

I make crumble loads - slice the apples, put them in the oven dish, chuck a bit of sugar on top, then microwave until soft. Put crumble mix on top (bought, obviously ) and then bake until cooked (45 mins ish).

I do less than that. Slice raw apples and mix with some sugar and cinammon. Pop extra crumble mix on top of the raw apple mixture ensuring no apples show through. Cook for about an hour or until brown.

Yup I do like pippop1 raw apples and crumble mixture into the oven.
Mix a about half a nutella glass of apple juice/squeeze an orange with a heaped tsp of cornflour, add the sugar and what have you and pour it over the apple (before the crumble goes on) then you get apples in sauce underneath.

Ooooh. I like that idea of the sauce Himalaya. I might try that next time.

One of my friends puts chunks of chocolate into the crumble mixture. Sadly chocolate gives me headaches or I would do this too.
