Just marzipaned my Xmas cake

have a ball of marzipan in between golf ball and tennis ball size left over (with a few brown xmas cake crumbs in)

seems a shame to waste it... it could just eat it as it is, but wondered if anyone has any ideas what to do with 'just a bit' of marzipan!

Add some food colouring and make it into fruit shapes! The kids love making apples (use a clove for the stalk), bananas, oranges( roll around on the knobbly bit on a grater to give peel effect).

good idea but dont have any food colouring

guess i could do lots of lemons and bananas!

Chop it into lumps and freeze it.

You can then bake it in a cake at a later date.

Got a recipe if you want it?

nannyl · 21/12/2010 11:05

(didnt realise you could freeze marzipan!)

Roll it into shapes and dip it in chocolate?

OhLittleTownOfShirley · 21/12/2010 11:25

I'm at work now, but will type it out for you when I get home.

I made marzipan chocolates today with almonds on top.

Roll marzipan into balls. Roll balls in melted chocolate. Decorate with almonds or whatever.

mazzystartled · 21/12/2010 19:31

make amaretti biscuits

KatyMac · 21/12/2010 19:38

I would eat it, at least I would have done before I discovered I was intolerant to it (& I do feel cheated discovering it Xmas Angry)

TrillianAstra · 21/12/2010 19:41

I would eat it.

as poshsinglemum - I always deliberately buy too much, then roll into small balls, dip in melted 70 pc choc, then in chopped nuts. Set on greaseproof in fridge. Divine.

mylittlemonkey · 21/12/2010 22:34

i always find that a thin layer of marzipan inside the bottom or top of your mince pies makes them really stand out.

nannyl · 22/12/2010 11:40

oooh marzipan in mince pies...

now theres an idea Wink

think ill def try that!

Bake in oven to make almond biscuits (v Scandinavian), i used it to make a top crust for an apple pie for someone who could not eat wheat, or soak some dried fruit in alcohol or orange juice overnight, then roll out marzipan into thin layer, put fruit on top and roll up like a swiss roll - even better if then covered in chocolate. (heads to shops to buy extra packet of marzipan).
