Making chutney?

Have read a few recipes that say I need to protect the chutney from the metal lid (old jam jars etc) and recommend using the plastic that cereals come in. Do I just need to put a circle of this inside the lid?

Any advice welcome!

Thanks
Mandy

Would it be possible to put it over the jar and then screw down the lid over it.

I use the le parfait jars with the rubber rings, then there isn't any danger of the metal lid being attacked by the acid in the vinegar.
