Brandy for Christmas Cake it's old but can I use it?

I want to make a christmas cake but the recipe states brandy to soak dried fruit. I have a bottle of brandy which was opened more than a year ago, can I still use it as I have no idea if its goes off?

I've heard it said it never goes off like vineager.
